Should you try Gamma?
Try it if: Getting from a blank page to a presentable slide deck or visual document quickly.
Skip it if: You need exact brand control on the free plan or expect AI-generated facts and slide copy to be presentation-ready without editing.
Free-plan reality: Gamma Free costs $0, needs an account but no credit card, and currently lists 400 starter AI credits at signup. These credits do not refill monthly; extra credits may be available through referrals. AI credit use varies by slide, image, model, and task. A Free workspace can generate up to 10 slides per prompt and export PDF, PPTX, and PNG. In our four-slide test, the visible balance fell from 900 to 850 credits; that is one example, not a price promise for every deck. Free PDF and PPTX exports include Gamma branding (shown as “Made with Gamma” in our PDF).
Before you paste or upload: For individual workspaces, training use is allowed by default but can be turned off in Settings → Data Controls. Remove confidential material before importing files.

Gamma is useful when you have the content but not the time or confidence to design a first deck. Give it an outline or a safe source file, then reshape the result.
What we tried: On a Free workspace, we gave Gamma fictional project notes and asked for a four-slide internal update. It showed an editable outline before generating the deck, kept the 12-volunteer and three-box facts, carried over both named next steps and due dates, and labeled the unknown venue and event date as not confirmed. It did not invent attendance or budget. The first deck was useful, but a person should still review wording, visual style, and every claim before presenting it.
The easiest way to start
- Create a free account; no credit card is required for the Free plan.
- Paste an outline or upload a non-confidential source document.
- Choose a theme, generate the first deck, then shorten the copy and verify every claim.
A useful tip
Give Gamma a slide-by-slide outline. You will usually get a more useful deck than from a broad request such as “make a presentation about marketing.”
What to watch for
The starter AI credits do not refresh monthly, and Free PDF/PPTX exports carry Gamma branding. Check the balance and export preview before relying on the file. In individual workspaces, content may be used to train Gamma’s AI models unless you opt out in account Settings → Data Controls. Our tested account’s training switch was on; we did not change it. Avoid entering confidential notes until you have checked your own setting and sharing permissions.
Why H5W gave it this rating
It removes the blank-slide problem quickly and exports common formats, but the starter-credit model and privacy default deserve attention.
