Verified evidence cards becoming a restrained pitch deck

How to Make a Pitch Deck With AI Without Inventing Numbers

You need to explain an idea clearly enough for someone to support it, buy it, approve it, or ask for the next conversation. The evidence is spread across notes and spreadsheets, and some answers are still unknown.

AI can organize that material into a pitch story. The danger is that it can also make missing evidence look complete by inventing market numbers, customer reactions, traction, or confident promises.

The rule I would not skip: build a claim ledger before you ask for slides. Give the AI only confirmed evidence, require [CHECK] for every gap, and use it to structure the story—not to manufacture proof.

First, decide who the pitch is for

A pitch deck is not one universal document.

Your audience might be:

  • a customer deciding whether the solution fits;
  • a manager approving an internal project;
  • a partner considering collaboration;
  • a lender or grant reviewer assessing a plan;
  • an investor deciding whether to continue the conversation.

Write one sentence:

After this presentation, I want [audience] to [specific next action].

“Be impressed” is not a useful action. “Approve a two-week pilot,” “book a product demonstration,” or “review the supporting financial model” gives the deck a real destination.

Create a claim ledger

Before using AI, make a small table:

Claim you want to makeEvidence you haveSource and dateStatus
Customers have this problemSix interview notesInterview file, September 2026Confirmed
The service saves two hoursOne internal testTest sheet, October 6, 2026Limited evidence
The market is growing 20%No sourceNoneRemove or research
Three customers recommend usNo approved quotationsNoneDo not claim

The status matters. One small test is not the same as a broadly proven result, and a founder's belief is not the same as customer evidence.

Do not upload confidential financials, customer identities, contracts, or private investor material to a consumer AI service unless the account and workflow are approved for that information.

Copy this pitch-deck prompt

Create a pitch-deck outline using only the evidence below.

Audience: [customer, manager, partner, lender, grant reviewer, investor, or another audience]

Desired next action: [one specific action]

Presentation length: [minutes or maximum slides]

Confirmed evidence:

– [claim + source]

– [claim + source]

– [claim + source]

Assumptions that must be labeled as assumptions:

– [assumption]

Do not invent market size, growth, revenue, savings, customers, quotations, testimonials, partnerships, pricing, credentials, or results. Do not add company or customer logos. If proof is missing, write [CHECK].

Return a table with: slide title, purpose, supported claim, source, and speaker-note idea. Keep one main claim per slide.

The source column makes unsupported confidence visible before the deck is designed.

A practical ten-part structure

You may not need all ten sections. Use only what supports the audience's decision.

  1. Title and one-line promise: what the idea helps someone do.
  2. Problem: the specific situation, supported by evidence.
  3. Who experiences it: a defined customer or user—not “everyone.”
  4. Current alternatives: what people do today and where it falls short.
  5. Your solution: how the proposed approach works.
  6. Evidence: tests, usage, interviews, revenue, or other proof with scope and dates.
  7. Market or opportunity: only sourced numbers and clearly labeled assumptions.
  8. How it sustains itself: pricing or business model, if relevant to this audience.
  9. Plan and risks: the next milestone, dependencies, and uncertainties.
  10. The ask: one concrete next step.

For a customer pitch, you may replace the market and business-model slides with implementation, support, and pricing. For an internal pitch, focus on the current process, proposed change, resources, risks, and decision required.

Use AI to tighten the story—not improve the evidence

After reviewing the outline, AI can help:

  • shorten a title;
  • remove repeated slides;
  • separate slide text from speaker notes;
  • reorganize confirmed facts around the audience's decision;
  • suggest questions the audience may ask;
  • identify claims that lack a source.

It cannot turn a weak source into strong evidence. Asking it to “make this more persuasive” may produce bigger claims rather than a clearer explanation.

Use this safer revision prompt:

Make the deck easier to follow without changing the strength, scope, or certainty of any claim. Keep every number and source unchanged. Shorten the slide text, move detail into speaker notes, and list any sentence that sounds stronger than the evidence supports.

Watch for five dangerous inventions

Market size

Do not accept a market figure without the named source, publication date, geography, definition, and calculation. A broad industry number may not describe the customers you can actually reach.

Traction

Interest, sign-ups, active use, paid customers, recurring revenue, and profit are different. Use the exact measure and time period.

Testimonials

AI-generated praise is not a customer quotation. Use a real approved quotation or describe the evidence without quotation marks.

Savings and performance

“Could reduce work” is not “saves 40%.” Label a small test as a test and show how the result was measured.

Partnerships and logos

Using a company's logo can imply a relationship or approval. Do not add it unless you have the right and a truthful reason to do so.

If the pitch will also be used in advertising or public promotion, remember that claims can be judged by what they imply, not only by the exact words. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission's business guidance says advertising claims must be truthful, non-deceptive, and supported by evidence. Other laws and jurisdictions may apply to you.

Choose the presentation tool after the claims are ready

Gamma is useful when you want a fast first structure and web-style deck, but current free exports add a Gamma badge and its free AI credits do not refresh. Canva gives more manual visual control and familiar templates, while a PPTX export may need cleanup in PowerPoint. Adobe Express can currently generate from prompts or supported source files, with a limited number of complimentary generations on the free plan.

PowerPoint Copilot or Gemini in Google Slides may fit an existing workplace, but access depends on the subscription and organization settings. The tool does not determine whether the pitch is honest.

A final claim audit

Before sharing the deck, review every sentence that a reasonable viewer could treat as a fact.

  1. Is the source named and current enough for the claim?
  2. Does the slide preserve the source's scope and uncertainty?
  3. Are estimates labeled, with their method?
  4. Are customer quotations real and approved?
  5. Do logos or screenshots imply a relationship that does not exist?
  6. Does the deck clearly separate current results from future goals?
  7. Can the speaker answer “How do you know?” without relying on the AI output?

For fundraising, lending, legal commitments, financial forecasts, regulated claims, or securities-related communication, have a qualified professional review the final material. AI-generated slides are not due diligence.
