ChatGPT Can Now Show Comparisons and Calculators Inside Answers

Sometimes you do not need another long answer. You need a comparison you can scan, a plan you can adjust, or a simple calculator you can actually use.

What changed: ChatGPT's new Intelligent UI can turn some GPT-6 answers into side-by-side comparisons, charts, interactive diagrams, forms, and small tools such as a bill splitter. You ask normally; ChatGPT chooses the format. You can also ask directly for an interactive version.

What you can try

Use a practical request with clear inputs:

  • Compare these three phone plans side by side. Show monthly cost, data, contract length, and the best fit for light use.
  • Create a simple bill splitter for six people. Two people did not order drinks.
  • Turn this moving checklist into an interactive plan grouped by this week, moving day, and the first week after moving.
  • Explain this topic with a diagram I can explore step by step.

If the answer comes back as plain text, ask:

Can you turn this into a simple interactive comparison?

Give it the rules before asking for an interface

An interactive answer is only as useful as the inputs behind it. State the choices, units, assumptions, and result you need before asking for a chart or calculator.

For a comparison, name the criteria and say which facts are confirmed. For a calculator, define every input and whether fees, taxes, interest, or rounding should be included. For a planner, give the deadline, fixed commitments, and anything that cannot move.

Try this pattern:

Create an interactive [comparison/calculator/plan] using these inputs: [LIST]. Use these rules: [RULES]. Show all assumptions beside the result, and mark missing information instead of inventing a value.

Ask for the assumptions to remain visible. If the interface hides how a result was produced, request a plain-language calculation underneath it.

The useful part for beginners

The feature does not require you to learn a special command or choose a separate tool. ChatGPT can decide that a comparison is easier to understand side by side or that a small calculator is better than a formula buried in a paragraph.

That makes it most useful when you need to:

  • compare a small number of options;
  • adjust one or two numbers and see the result change;
  • understand how parts of something fit together;
  • follow a plan with clear stages;
  • turn a short decision into a more usable layout.

Do not treat the interface as proof

A polished calculator can still use a wrong assumption. A clear chart can still be based on incomplete information.

Before making a purchase, financial choice, health decision, or important work decision:

  1. check where the numbers came from;
  2. confirm that taxes, fees, dates, and conditions are included;
  3. redo important calculations with a trusted calculator or source;
  4. ask ChatGPT to list its assumptions.

The interface makes the answer easier to use. It does not make the underlying information automatically correct.

Test one normal case and one edge case

Before relying on a calculator, use an example whose answer you already know. Then try an edge case such as zero, a blank field, a very large number, or two options with the same value. Check whether units, totals, and labels stay correct when an input changes.

For a comparison, remove one criterion and see whether the recommendation changes for a sensible reason. For a plan, move the deadline and confirm that dependent steps update rather than simply keeping the old dates.

Use an ordinary document or spreadsheet when the result needs to be archived, audited, shared with people outside ChatGPT, or edited over time. An in-chat interface is convenient for exploration; it is not automatically a durable record.

Before acting, save the confirmed inputs and final result in a format you control. For money, health, legal obligations, or workplace decisions, repeat the key calculation with an authoritative source or trusted tool.

Who has it?

OpenAI began rolling GPT-6 with Intelligent UI out globally to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users on October 7, 2026, followed by Free and Go users. Workspace availability can depend on administrator settings.

The feature applies to the regular Chat experience. It will not appear for every question, and different plans use different GPT-6 models.
