Gemini
The quick answer
Should you try Gemini?
Try it if: People who already use Google and want everyday help with writing, learning, planning, and files.
Skip it if: Your work or school administrator blocks Gemini, or you need an answer that must be correct without source checking.
Free-plan reality: Basic Gemini access is available without a paid Google AI plan. Google’s standard usage limits depend on prompt complexity, model, features, and chat length; they refresh every five hours until a weekly cap and can change. Paid plans increase access. Our meeting-notes test used a Pro account, not the free tier.
Before you paste or upload: On personal accounts, check Gemini’s Keep Activity setting before sharing information. Google says temporary chats are not used to train its AI models but are retained for 72 hours for service and safety processing; human review may still occur for safety. Avoid confidential uploads. Work or school accounts may follow administrator rules.

Gemini can turn a rough question, file, or idea into a usable first answer. It is especially convenient if your everyday work already lives in Google’s ecosystem.
The easiest way to start
- Sign in with the Google Account you want to use.
- Describe the one result you need, or attach a non-sensitive file.
- Check names, dates, numbers, and quoted material against the original.
A useful tip
Ask for a short answer first. If it is useful, follow up for a table, checklist, email, or other format you can actually use.
What we tried: In a temporary chat on a Pro account, we gave Gemini fictional meeting notes and asked it to separate decisions, action items, owners, deadlines, and open questions. It kept the agreed Thursday deadline, marked a missing deadline as “Not specified,” and left the launch date open. This test shows a useful first result, but it does not measure Free-plan usage or file handling. Check each owner and deadline against your original notes.
What to watch for
Basic Gemini access is available without a paid Google AI plan, but usage is not unlimited. Google says limits depend on the work you ask it to do, refresh every five hours until a weekly cap, and can change. Features also differ by age, country, and whether the account is personal, work, or school-managed. Don’t rely on a fixed free-message count.
Why H5W gave it this rating
Gemini is easy for Google users and covers many everyday tasks, though account-specific availability can be confusing.
