Free-plan reality: Claude Free costs $0 and includes web chat and writing help. A signed-in Free account completed our short email-rewrite test. Free usage resets in five-hour sessions; message count varies, and other limits may apply. Anthropic’s pricing table lists credit cards as not applicable to Free.

Before you paste or upload: Consumer conversations may be used to improve Claude if you allow it. Incognito chats are excluded from model improvement, but safety-processing exceptions still apply. Check your privacy settings and do not paste passwords, health records, financial information, or confidential work files.

What Claude helps with

Claude is a good fit when you already have material and want help making it clearer. Paste a non-sensitive draft, attach an appropriate file, or explain the decision you are trying to make.

The easiest way to start

  1. Create an account and open a new chat.
  2. Paste a safe excerpt or upload a non-confidential file, then say what you want changed or understood.
  3. Ask Claude to preserve facts and mark anything it is unsure about.

A useful tip

For revisions, say what must stay unchanged. For example: “Keep every number and commitment exactly as written; only improve clarity.”

What we tried on the Free plan: We gave Claude a fictional training-session email and asked for a friendlier version under 80 words. It kept the Friday 2 p.m. time, 45-minute length, Wednesday reply request, and promise to send materials afterward. It did not invent a location or meeting link. Check every date, number, and commitment against your original before sending a rewrite.

What to watch for

Free usage is limited. Claude says its Free usage resets in five-hour sessions, but the number of messages can vary with demand and the work you ask it to do. Don’t count on a fixed daily message allowance. A polished answer can still be wrong, so compare important claims with the source material.

Why H5W gave it this rating

Claude is approachable and strong with writing and long context; the variable free limit is the main beginner drawback.
